On 29 August 2013 in Beijing, Open Networking Foundation (ONF), a non-profit organization which is committed to developing SDN (Software Defined Network) technologies, made an announcement that it authorized BII (Beijing Internet Institute) to establish a “Global SDN Testing and Certification Center” and provide the service of Open Flow testing and certification across the world. As a science and technology service center which commits itself to offering such latest technologies as SDN and IPv6, BII, as a member of the ONF, will promote the deployment and commercialization of SDN and the OpenFlow protocol in Chinese operators, data centers, internet companies and large enterprises.

   ““We support the actions taken by the ONF, and we also believe that the SDN technologies and the Openflow protocol will play a positive role in the rapid development of internet in the world,” said BII’s CEO Liu Dong, “our objective is to offer our service suppliers and enterprise clients the benefits of these technologies and thus realize the true value of SDN. We are honored to be the world’s first SDN testing and certification center authorized by the ONF beyond America.”

With emphasis on China, the Global SDN Testing and Certification Center will provide SDN technology-based testing services for its clients across the world. Here, the clients will be able to undertake the test on the intercommunity among manufacturers, the protocol comformance test, the function test and the performance test. Through the cooperation with the ONF, the Center will offer the services about SDN and OpenFlow testing and certification and the ONF OpenFlow tests and certification about relevant products. And it will also issue corresponding certification certificates. 

“The comformance test is highly important for commercial products, for it can demonstrate that the products fully support the OpenFlow protocol. Moreover, it can enhance the clients’ trust in and good impression on the products,” said Dan Pitt, the CEO of the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), “As the second testing and certification lab across the world and the first one in Asia, the Center is an essential milestone of the ONF. We will strive to accelerate the global commercialization of the open network and SDN and welcome BII to be a member of us. We hope that more people in the world would get to know and use SDN.”
